Improvement : new credit tag to component Layout improved drawing quality, new vector rendering Improved 3D warehouse access from Component palet Improved edge behavior that cut automatically More fast and intuitive SketchUp, improved inference Improved cotation tool (to fit with Layout beta) New Layout application (beta) !! (burn Autocad licence) Improved “walk tool” with collision detection Important improvement : the possibility to change textures on face Improved 3D view with the possibility to change the angle of view Improved inference with the possibility to lock direction, alignment New face intersection function (first boolean like possibilities) New projection option for image and texture, for example with sandbox work New Scene tools (named pages at that time) Improved inference (tangent and equidistant recognition) New smooth rendering of curves, tool to smooth lines SketchUp the ( r )evolution before Trimble : I think I will make the list that I talked about. If not a degraded experience with the proctator, inference, and a weighted interface of icons with useless or little used functions.Īlmost nothing except the pink line inference form face. improved import / export in DWG from LayoutĪlmost Nothing.the scale associated with Layout’s illustration drawings.the button to change a view thumbnail in Layout (but which only works with SketchUp documents), which we did before by cutting / pasting and separate document.display of information in objects through the legends in Layout.patterns as attributes in Layout (2013).You will notice that these are just improvements: While waiting for you to list the improvements of LastSoftware / Google, here is what I mainly remember from Trimble years, since 2013, for 7 years! Is it possible to go back in time and ask LastSoftware not to sell SketchUp ? It may take some time! For your interest, here is how the initial features were described: These are just examples, I can find the list of new functions and main improvements during these years… SU 8 : new solid concept, with volume information, and boolean tool. SU 7.1 : new 3D engine that display large and detail models !!! The cotation tool in Layout ! SU 6 : I remember a little improvement in Ruby API that let the possibility to add custom data on entities… then we get rendering plugins, and BIM development capacities… SU 6 come with Layout beta version… SU 4 : introduction of follow-me tool, Ruby scripting, Sandbox as a new set of tools and technical demo of ruby script, etc… Ok… So… You probably find such examples of improvements in Trimble’s years as : Nice to read that a member of SketchUp team could post here personal opinion. Maybe that would then look like more was new. It would be nice if there was a tool type that nobody had thought of so far, that could be added in the next update. That may then look like less things were new. Even version 1 had most of the tools in there, but early on the updates may well have introduced new tools, and the later updates try to improve how the tools work. I wish I had the time to list all of the new features for each release, it would be an interesting thing to look at. When you have completed your sandbox, just like before, take at least three separate screenshots of the sandbox from different angles and post those on your Canvas. If you possibly can, take most of my replies here as being my personal opinion, and not an official statement from Trimble… You can have fun customizing additions to the sandbox, but make sure to keep the key elements of the sandbox from the instructions. The tutorial instructions are linked above, it will take you step by step through the directions.įollow the basic instructions to create a sandbox. There may be a smaller window with an embedded video, but that video is probably blocked (because it's vimeo). Scroll to find ' Turtle Sandbox' and click on ' Start Modeling.' This will open a modeling window. Once you are logged in, click on ' curriculum' to the side. You should still be able to add this project to that folder.Ĭlick and log in with your Google account (this is your email address and password). In assignment 1, you created a folder in your Google Drive specifically for these projects we are doing. Click here to download directions on how to build your 'Turtle Sandbox' These are the directions from SketchUp on how to build this sandbox.
